Two low pressure areas (LPA) are now being monitored by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) that may develop into tropical cyclones.
In a 8 a.m. bulletin released by the weather bureau on July 19 (Friday), the first LPA is located at 225 kilometer (km) west of Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro over the west Philippine Sea.
The second LPA was spotted 840 km east of Eastern Visayas. While moving away from the Philippine landmass and northwestward over the Philippine sea, the LPA’s may form into tropical cyclone that will be named Butchoy and Carina.
Due to the trough of LPA’s and habagat or southwest monsoon will continue to bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms across the country that could result in flash floods and landslides.
Affected areas are forecast in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Bicol region, Western Visayas and the rest of Mimaropa (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan).
Southwest monsoon will continue to bring rainfall in Mindanao and other areas of Visayas. In the rest of Luzon especially in Northern Luzon, expect the weather to be clear but there is a high chance of rains in the afternoon and at night due to localized thunderstorms according to Pagasa.
Mindanao have been severely affected by continuous rains brought by the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), southwest monsoon for the past days and now the LPA.
