PH, UAE INK DEALS TO BOOST ECONOMIC TIES

The Philippines and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) committed to deepening bilateral relations, especially in the economy and trade on President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. first visit to the Middle Eastern country meeting with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

 

The two leaders signed a memorandum of understanding to bolster cultural relations between the Philippines and the UAE. They vowed to deepen cooperation between their nations in trade, sustainability and other economic areas.

 

The partnership between the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Ministry of Culture of the United Arab Emirates on Cooperation in the Culture Sector highlights the shared dedication to preserving and celebrating cultural heritage.

 

The two countries are also currently negotiating a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

 

UAE President expressed the Philippine government’s openness to strengthening economic ties with the UAE. Emphasized their dedication to strengthening bilateral ties for the benefits of their peoples. Marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between their countries, which was established on Aug. 19, 1974.

 

During their meeting, Marcos also expressed his gratitude to President Al Nahyan for UAE’s assistance in several matters, including the arrest and turnover of a sex trafficker to the Philippine authorities and the training and support for the Philippine National Police (PNP).

 

Marcos also thanked the UAE for pardoning 143 Filipinos during this year’s Eid al-Adha and UAE’s humanitarian aid to survivors of the series of storms that hit the Philippines.

 

Around 700,000 Filipinos are working or staying in the UAE, making it the second-largest employer of Filipino expats after Saudi Arabia.
