PH AUTO INDUSTRY SALES UP BY 10.4%, TARGET 500K UNIT SALES IN 2025

Philippine automotive manufacturers is off to a good start as January sales revved up by 10.4 percent mainly fueled by purchases of commercial vehicles such as trucks and buses. Local automotive companies are looking to sell 500,000 units in 2025.
The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) reported the industry groups sold a total of 37,604 units last month.
This reflects a 10.4% increase from the 34,060 units sold in January 2024 and a 10.6% decline from the 42,044 units sold in December 2024.
Most of the 1,445 units sold during the month were hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), followed by 146 battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and nine plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
Commercial vehicles accounted for 29,875 units sold in January, marking a 79.45% market share and reflecting a 16.6% growth from the 25,614 units sold the same month last year.
This comprised 6,698 units of Asian utility vehicles (AUVs); 22,350 light commercial vehicles; 497 light-duty trucks and buses; 261 units of medium-duty trucks and buses; and 69 heavy-duty trucks and buses.
Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. accounted for 48.07% of unit sales in January, followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. with 19.61%, Nissan Philippines Inc. with 6.29%, Suzuki Philippines Inc. with 4.74%, and Ford Group Philippines with 4.19%.
CAMPI president Rommel Gutierrez said they were confident that the local industry will hit a sales milestone of 500,000 units this year following the January posting.
“Newly rolled out models and anticipated introduction of new models are some of the factors that will contribute to achieving this target,” Gutierrez said in a statement.
