COMMEMORATING 39TH ANNIVERSARY OF EDSA PEOPLE POWER

EDSA PEOPLE POWER - Through a variety of ceremonies and events, Filipinos celebrated the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on Tuesday.
At the People Power Monument in Quezon City, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) led the wreath-laying and flag-raising ceremonies at 8 a.m.
The Human Rights Violation Victims' Memorial Commission will host a program on the occasion, according to Kristoffer Pasion, a senior history researcher with the NHCP.
In a separate interview, Rector of Archdiocesan Shrine of Mary, Queen of Peace Fr. Jerome Secillano said their activities would focus on the faith component of the EDSA revolution.
This year, a Tuesday, was designated as a special working day to commemorate the anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. To mark the event, a number of schools have declared that classes will be suspended.
The people is still free to celebrate the Edsa People Power Revolution, Malacañang defended Tuesday's designation as a special working day.
The late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was overthrown in the 1986 rebellion, and Corazon Aquino, the widow of Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., was elected president.
