Along with the long holiday ahead, the worsening traffic in Metro Manila is being studied and discussed by the authorities. Work-from-home laws for employees was mentioned to solve the traffic problem in the NCR, after the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) has urged the government to declare a “state of calamity” in Metro Manila’s traffic.
Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva stressed out that the Work-from-home law or the Republic Act No. 11165 is in need to be observe to ease the country’s traffic situation.
“Companies and employees should be allowed to arrange for flexible work arrangements instead of having employees report physically in the office every day and losing working hours due to traffic,” Villanueva said.
The Senate Resolution No. 859 has been already filed by Villanueva last year that calls for the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Transportation (DOTr), and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to review and revisit the government’s traffic control program.
On a report there is an estimated P3.5 billion daily economic loss being incurred continuously due to the severe traffic congestion in Metro Manila.
According to the chairperson of the Senate Public Services Committee Sen. Grace Poe, the region’s traffic congestion problem will not be solved by setting Metro Manila under a “state of calamity”. The government should Consult professionals for advice and heed their recommendations on how to make things better.
“They don’t need to declare a state of traffic calamity. We feel it every single day. Government should listen and employ the help of experts from all sectors, clearly this is a crisis that needs to be addressed. Adding more roads is not the only solution,” she added.
