Some residents in Cebu City have started rationing water due to the severe effect of El Niño. 28 barangays have also been placed under a state of calamity and a water crisis has also been declared.
Some rivers in Cebu City are almost dry and swamped due to the severe effects of El Niño. Due to the severity of the drought, the ground is cracking, and animals are also affected by the extreme heat.
Some farmers are still trying to irrigate some dry crops in the hope that something will be saved. Aside from the rivers that are sources of irrigation, the water level in the dams in Cebu City continues to drop so 28 barangays in the city have been put under a state of calamity.
The local government also declared the water crisis, “I went to the water source in Lusaran and Buhisan, there’s really a big water loss there, and if you look at the farm land it’s really quite dry,” Mayor Mike Rama said.
In order to provide water to the residents, water rationing has started in the affected barangays, the city has also placed machines on some river banks to drink the water.
96 million pesos of the local government’s quick response funds will be used to the affected of El Niño.
