At least one to two tropical cyclones may develop in the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this December according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The weather bureau stated that these typhoons expected this month may be similar in strength to tropical cyclone Kristine, which may veer away from the Philippine landmass or make landfall over Luzon, the Visayas, or Mindanao.
At least 16 typhoons entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this year where Kristine was considered the deadliest. The country’s last tropical cyclone was Super Typhoon Pepito (Man-yi) in mid-November.
As of Monday, December 02, there were no low pressure areas or potential tropical cyclones being monitored inside or outside PAR.
Currently, the shear line will continue to bring rains over Southern Luzon and Visayas while the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) will keep affecting the rest of Luzon according to Pagasa. It noted that the shear line is brought by the collision of dry, hot winds from the Pacific Ocean and cold winds from the northeast monsoon.
Due to the shear line, cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected over Metro Manila, Mimaropa, Calabarzon, the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Western Visayas, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan. Moderate to at times heavy rains may possibly result in flash floods or landslides.
It said cloudy skies with rains were expected in the rest of Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region due to the shearline. Flash floods or landslides may possibly result due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
Ilocos Region and the rest of Central Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the amihan, while the rest of the country could expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
Pagasa advised the public to remain cautious due to the threat of flooding and landslides brought about by rains in affected areas.
