The Land Transportation Office (LTO) warns against text scams pretending to be traffic violations. These fake notices have a link attached that leads to a fake Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) Portal.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said that, “We’ve received continuous reports of these scams. We advise the public to ignore these messages to protect yourselves from online scammers. If you receive one, it’s a scam.”
Individuals will be required to enter their plate number and other personal information. Typing in any personal or banking information will give the scammers these crucial data.
“Never enter your license plate number or any personal information about your bank or e-wallet accounts. Better yet, simply ignore these messages altogether,” Mendoza cautioned.
The LTO said that they do not send any traffic violations through text messages or any messaging apps. The agency is coordinating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to identify those behind the scam.
Mendoza also instructed all regional directors and district office heads to intensify public awareness through their social media accounts.
