TERMINAL & PORT AREAS PREPARING FOR HOLY WEEK

Different authorities and personnel are now preparing for the massive influx of people for the coming Holy Week. According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), more than 30,000 police officers will be deployed for the Holy Week and vacation period. 

 

Among those to be guarded are the terminal, port, airport, and major roads. Vigilance will also be increased in tourist destinations.

The Corporate Affairs head of Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) Jason Salvador said that they are expecting almost 1.7 million passengers to pass through the terminal starting Friday March 22.

 

Salvador said that the terminal authorities is making sure that the PITX has sufficient numbers of buses for the individuals going to different provinces for vacation and to spend the Holy Week. It is also advised to try to travel light or lessen the baggage carried for convenience and not having a hard time with many people around.

 

PITX are preparing and ensuring that the buses, drivers, security, and their operation for this year’s surge is in good condition and will operate properly. 

 

Meanwhile, over 2 million passengers are expected to flock in port areas for the Holy Week according to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA). Compared to numbers of passengers last year 2023 with 1.8 million, it will be higher this year 2024.

 

Panay, Guimaras port; Batangas port; Jordan, Guimaras Port; Mindoro Calapan port; and Dumangas port are the port areas that is expected to be crowded by massive passengers. Port areas are now ensuring and will be monitoring the security, first aid services and help desks will be 24/7, and K9 units in coordination wit the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

 

Commuters will likely flock the terminals and port areas on Holy Monday or once they are allowed to leave from work and on Easter Sunday returning to their homes.
