TERMINAL FEE IN NAIA MIGHT INCREASE

The consortium that won the bid to operate Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is San Miguel Corp. (SMC). With the privatization of the airport operation, airfares may increase, according to the Secretary of the Department of Transportation, Jaime Bautista.
Terminal, aeronautical, rental, and other fees may rise, but improvements must be done first by the consortium. Bautista said that hikes are possible, but not necessarily if the operations are efficient. The consortium may not raise the terminal fee too much.

Among other airports in Asia, NAIA’s terminal fee is the lowest, at P350 for domestic flights and P550 for international flights. Compared to the almost P750 terminal fees of both Clark International Airport and Mactan-Cebu International Airport, which operated privately, the operations are orderly and the facilities are nice, Bautista stated.
The Manila Airport Authority expects an increase in rentals, navigation, and various airport charges. For over two decades since April 2000, when the charges have been unchanged for a long time, General Manager Eric Ines stated.
Meanwhile, different airlines supported NAIA’s privatization of operations.
Spokesperson Steve Dailisan of Air Asia Philippines is delighted about the upcoming developments at the airport with nice facilities and convenient travel, and this is still the dignity of the passengers. However, Dailisan expressed that he hopes the terminal fees and other airport charges won’t be changed drastically yet, because this will affect the airline's operations as well as the passengers.
President Xander Lao of Cebu Pacific said that they anticipate long-term infrastructure improvements in developing NAIA’s capacity and that passengers’ benefits will improve in efficiency and convenience when traveling.
