It is also a sign of the beginning of fasting or the avoidance of food or drink, or anything else that breaks the fasting. Fasting for Muslims is what brings them closer to God, they can only eat at sunset.
Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar or ‘Hijri’. Muslims believe that in this month God revealed the Quran to Prophet Muhammad. For many Muslims, fasting has never been a hardship for them, but a blessing.
Muslims fast for 29-10 days during Ramadan. It is also a sacred time to read the Qur’an and offer a prayer called ‘Tarawih’.
Meanwhile, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) called on other religions to avoid eating or drinking near places where Muslims pray this Ramadan.
