SOUTHWEST MONSOON TO PREVAIL OVER THE LONG WEEKEND – PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) is closely monitoring a tropical storm outside the Philippines area of responsibility (PAR) with an international name “Shanshan” and is not expected to enter the and affect the country in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the prevailing weather system is still Easterlies, affecting the eastern section of Luzon and Visayas but the return of Southwest Monsoon or Habagat is expected.
“This morning, we are expecting the easterlies to prevail in the eastern section of Luzon and Visayas. By noon and until the long weekend, the southwest monsoon will prevail again and this southwest monsoon will bring rain to southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.”
A high chance of moderate to heavy rains is expected over Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-tawi due to Habagat. Nearby areas in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Negros Island region, and other parts of Western Mindanao may also be affected.
To the rest of the country, expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies including Metro Manila that will be accompanied by scattered rain or lightning and thunder especially in the afternoon to evening.
On its thunderstorm advisory, Moderate to heavy rainshowers with lightning and strong winds are expected over Rizal, Laguna and Batangas within the next 3 hours. The above conditions are being experienced in Quezon (Panukulan, Perez, Mauban) which may persist within 2 hours and may affect nearby areas.
“All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards which include flash floods and landslides.”
