SEVERE TROPICAL STORM CARINA, SIGNAL NO. 1 UP; JULY 22 CLASS SUSPENSIONS

Carina has developed into Severe Tropical Storm, due to the effects brought by the storm, classes for July 22 (Monday) are suspended as it continues to enhance the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat bringing strong winds and intense rainfall.
Classes are suspended in all levels of public and private schools in Malabon City, Bataan province, and Cavite. While In Quezon City, classes are suspended in all levels, private schools; and Brigada Eskwela, public schools due to SONA 2024.

On Pagasa bulletin, as of 5 a.m. on July 22, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 was raised over the eastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gattaran, Baggao, Peñablanca, Lal-Lo, Gonzaga); and the northeastern portion of Isabela (Divilacan, Palanan, Maconacon).
These areas are expected to experience strong winds ranging from 39 to 61 km/h within 36 hours, posting minimal to minor threat to life and property.
Rainfalls are forecast in the extreme northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan and Babuyan Islands and the eastern portions of mainland Cagayan and Isabela.
On Monday the Southwest Monsoon will also bring gale-force gusts over MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Northern Samar, and the northern portion of Samar, especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds.
Gale-force gusts will be experience in Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and Visayas on Tuesday, while Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and Visayas on Wednesday.
According to the weather bureau, severe tropical storm “carina” further intensifies while moving slowly. Over the Philippine Sea, Carina is forecast to move generally north northwestward to northward until mid-Wednesday (24 July) while gradually accelerating before turning northwestward for the remainder of the forecast period.
Carina will remain far from the Philippine landmass and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday evening or Thursday early morning (25 July). Carina is forecast to steadily intensify over the next four days due to favorable environment. It is forecast to reach typhoon category within 24 hours.
Location of the center of the eye was estimated based on all available data 420 km East of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (17.2 °N, 125.7 °E ).
