SERIES OF STORMS AFFECTED OVER 1.8 MILLION FILIPINOS – NDRRMC

Over 1.8 million individuals nationwide were affected by the combined effects of the last three weather disturbances that hit the country, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
In NDRRMC’s situational report, the effects of tropical cyclones Typhoon Nika (international name: Toraji), Typhoon Ofel (international name: Usagi), and Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi) have affected 1,822,343 people or 473,016 families.
Of this figure, 685,071 individuals flee their homes with 446,177 staying inside 2,569 evacuation centers nationwide, while 246,786 took shelter elsewhere. These individuals are from the Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Bicol regions, as well as Metro Manila.
The tropical cyclones also resulted in P469.8 million damage to infrastructure and P8.6 million damage to agriculture. Partially damaged 7,401 houses and totally damaged 437 others due to cyclones were reported.
Around 272 roads, 101 bridges and 88 seaports have been affected by Typhoons Nika, Ofel and Pepito. Of which 34 roads and 24 bridges were rendered not passable as of the moment.
Agricultural damages covering losses sustained by farmers and fisherfolk, including damaged crops, agricultural infrastructure, machinery and equipment, as well as livestock, poultry and fisheries.
Eleven cities and municipalities were also placed under the state of calamity, eight of which were from Cagayan Valley, two from CAR, and one from Central Luzon. The NDRRMC said classes in 690 cities and municipalities were also suspended.
The DSWD reported that the total cost of humanitarian assistance for the three typhoons has reached P70.788 million. The agency holds P196.946 million in standby funds, while the total value of available food and non-food items is P2.09 billion.
The DSWD estimated that 2.341 million people, equivalent to 634,476 families, experienced the impacts of Typhoons Nika, Ofel and Pepito which was doubled from NDRRMC’s recorded report.
However, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos has confirmed one fatality in Daet, Camarines Norte due to the effects of Pepito, according to its Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).
