The Premier Volleyball League will host the Philippine National Team in the World's Division of volleyball. It was the decision of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) to give the responsibility to the PVL. According to the agreement, PVL will train and manage the squad moving forward.
Brazilian Jorge Edson de Brito was also named Coach of the National Team. PVL's new role will begin in the upcoming Asian Volleyball Confederation Challenge Cup for Women that will be held in the country on May 22-29.
The Philippine national team competes against teams from Kazakhstan, Iran, China Taipei, Vietnam, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, and India in the AVC Challenge Cup for Women at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
At the federation's board meeting on April 12 at Seda Nuvali during the FIVB Beach Pro Tour in Santa Rosa City, the PNVF board decided to assign the duty for the national women's squad to the PVL.
PNVF president Ramon Suzara said, “This is a landmark decision by the PNVF board and we are looking forward to the PVL forming the strongest women’s national team ever.”
A preliminary pool of 20 players has been compiled, although it is not finalized yet, according to PVL president Ricky Palou. This list was put up based on suggestions from multiple coaches and has been sent to de Brito for additional examination and approval.
“We have a pool of 20 [players]. It's not yet final because we're waiting for coach De Brito to give us his inputs into the pool. But basically we came up with a list of 20 players while waiting for De Brito to look at it and see if he wants to make any changes or if he's satisfied with it,” Palou said.
As the official partner of the men's national team participating in the 32-team FIVB Men's World Championship 2025, which the nation will be hosting solo in September of next year, the PNVF has also formed an association with Cignal TV of the MVP Group.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Badminton Association announced their partnership with Cignal in the coverage of the 2024 Philippine Badminton Open. The elimination round will run from June 5-9 and is open to all Pinoy badminton players. This is one of the qualifying tournaments for the 2028 Olympics.
