PNP RESTRICTS VISIBLE TATTOOS ON PERSONNEL AND APPLICANTS

The Philippine National Police is ordering to remove the visible tattoos on their personnel, in accordance with the new guidelines of the PNP, the police should not have visible tattoos that the public can see that should be erased.
When it is on a part of the body such as the face, neck, ears, and arms, the police are also obliged to declare their hidden tattoos and they are required to promise that the tattoos cannot be added.
It is also forbidden to have a tattoo for those who are just entering the PNP, but aesthetic tattoos such as those on the eyebrows and lips are not included in the prohibition. Anyone who violates the new memo has penalties attached. But to clarify this is not discrimination, because they just want to protect the image of the police.
PCol Jean Fajardo PNP Spokesperson stated that, "For some who say this is creative art, this is an expression of their self-belief and artistic side, but in every right, there is always a boundary."
"When we enter the service we have an Oath of Office, written there we must maintain a reputation that speaks well of the organization. If you cannot follow regulation, then the door of the PNP will be open for you to resign," she added.
The guidelines are under the Memorandum Circular 2024-023 approved on March 19 and will take effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette.
Included tattoos that are considered unauthorized are extremist tattoos, indecent tattoos, sexist tattoos, ethnically or religiously discriminatory and offensive tattoos, racist tattoos, and tattoos associated with prohibited or unauthorized groups.
