The state seismologists stressed that based on “tsunami wave models and early tide gauge records of the tsunami in the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the coastal areas of Batanes Group of Islands, Cagayan, llocos Norte, and Isabela fronting the Pacific Ocean, people are strongly advised to immediately evacuate to higher grounds or move farther inland as they are expected to experience high tsunami waves.
“Owners of boats in harbors, estuaries or shallow coastal water of the above-mentioned provinces should secure their boats and move away from the waterfront. Boats already at sea during this period should stay offshore in deep waters until further advised,” PHILVOCS said.
Based on the modeling there could be one-to-three-meter tsunami waves, PHIVOLCS chief Teresito Bacolcol said the tsunami could be "devastating" if it reaches three meters high.
It is expected that the first tsunami waves would hit at 08:33 in the morning. until 10:33 a.m. (PST) and might not be the biggest. It's possible that these waves will last for hours.
Preemptive evacuation, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), is taking place in the Ilocos Norte municipalities of Pagudpud and Currimao.
The Cagayan Valley disaster council instructed all local disaster offices to evacuate inhabitants from coastal regions, according to the NDRRMC.
