March 25 Monday, the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill led by the Office of Civil Defense held at Camp Aguinaldo participated by various sectors including the National Police. At the sound of the bell, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and OCD
Administrator Ariel Nepomuceno led the earthquake drill.
It is important that the government prepares for various scenarios including the loss of communication, the blocking of vehicles on the road, and how to deliver aid and transfer supplies and rescue personnel if the infrastructure is damaged.
Right now, the administration of the residents is left to the barangay, but the protocol is still being honed for people who will be separated from their families or stranded elsewhere. The usual duck, cover, and hold should be added to how or who to approach, what to do, and where people will go after the earthquake.
The OCD believes that the country as a whole is prepared for large earthquakes, but it is important to practice it again and again and the correct response of the government and the people.
The OCD also reminded that when an earthquake occurs, it is not only the government's response that needs to be improved, but also the individual's preparation on how to prepare themselves and their families in the event of a strong earthquake.
