PHILIPPINES GUINNESS WORLD RECORD, ACHIEVED
The Philippines held its new Guinness World Record for the most variety of pork dishes on display, with 313 dishes. This is a way to stimulate the swine industry in the country after facing the severe problem of African Swine Fever (ASF).
Filipinos' favorite lechon, dishes from all over the Philippines, and international cuisine with a twist are present at the Hog Festival 2024 by the National Federation of Hog Farmers in Cubao, Quezon City.
Award-winning chefs from different restaurants and culinary schools came together for the event to try to achieve the Guinness World Record for the most pork dishes served at once.

“Almost a month ago, we started thinking the appoint dishes to make, how to execute, make it unique so as not to double the count, and of course make it delicious”, participating chef Michael Santos said in an ABS-CBN interview.
Some use local ingredients to honor the foods from the provinces, like Pampanga, Ilocano, Western Samar, and Zamboanga, and all of those are local ingredients that can be found in the Philippines, participating chef Joemar Inducil said.
According to the Official Adjudicator Sonia Ushirogochi of Guinness World Records, to achieve the record, “we must not only surpass the 300 dishes but also the over 300 dishes, and we must follow the criteria that the meat used must be pork and must contain at least three kilograms of pork in each dish, and each dish must be unique."
The Department of Agriculture is delighted with the recognition because it will help the Philippines promote food tourism around the world.
Sec. Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. of the Department of Agriculture said that this event will definitely increase awareness among consumers that there’s a huge hog industry in the country that needs support. Of course, being on the Guinness Book of World Records is an achievement that Filipinos can be proud of.
“Little by little, the country’s pig farmers are recovering, and hopefully we just slowly eradicate the ASF, and we aim to lessen the imports and widen the local production,” he added.
