Miss Universe Philippines Chelsea Manalo has been named as the first Miss Universe Asia 2024 during the post-pageant press conference held in Mexico City on Sunday (Philippine time).
On Instagram, Miss Universe Philippines 2024 shared a video of Chelsea greeting her fellow Filipinos. "Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! We are making history as Miss Universe Asia.”
Miss Universe recognized four continental queens from the 125 who participated in this year's edition held in Mexico. Similar to one of the duties of the reigning Miss Universe, these queens will serve as ambassadors for the continents they received titles for.
The Bulakenya beauty queen is set to travel around Asia and will be joining some of the official trips of the Miss Universe organization.
Manalo was declared as Miss Universe Asia 2024 along with 3 other queens from their respective continents. Chidimma Adetshina of Nigeria represented Africa & Oceania, Matilda Wirtavuori of Finland for Europe & Middle East, and Tatiana Calmell of Peru for the Americas.
Meanwhile, Denmark's bet Victoria Theilvig was declared as the winner of the 73rd Miss Universe, besting 124 other candidates. Making her the first Danish woman to win the prestigious crown. This is also the first time since 1957 that Denmark has landed in the top five of the competition.
Adetshina eventually settled for 1st runner-up, with Maria Fernanda Beltran (Mexico), Opal Suchata Chuangsri (Thailand), and Ileana Marquez (Venezuela) placing 2nd runner-up, 3rd runner-up and 4th runner-up, respectively.
Furthermore, the Philippines will have to wait for another year as the country's representative Manalo ended her journey for the Miss Universe crown before the Top 12 cut. Manalo's inclusion in the Top 30 gave the Philippines a two-year streak in making the first cut in Miss Universe.
Manalo was aiming to become the Philippines' fifth Miss Universe titleholder after Catriona Gray (2018), Pia Wurtzbach (2015), Margie Moran (1973), and Gloria Diaz (1969).
