PHILIPPINES 4th OLYMPIC MEDAL, NESTHY PETECIO TAKES HOME BRONZE

In the semifinals of the women’s 57kg division in 2024 Paris Olympics, Filipina boxer Nesthy Petecio secured a bronze medal after losing points via split decision, 4-1 against Polish boxer Julia Szeremeta.
Petecio took over the first round with her big lefts and swept the judges score cards but on the second and third round, the 20-year old Szeremeta showed better and swept the score cards in the said frame to claim the victory 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, 28-29 win.
"I thought this time, I had so much confidence in myself that I could get it. But that's alright, we were a little unlucky tonight. I'm still very thankful to the Lord because I showed you something beautiful," Petecio said.
The Filipina boxer missed the chance to advanced to the final of the 2024 Paris Olympics women’s boxing event and to advance to the gold medal match. Despite the loss, Petecio added one Olympic bronze medal for team Philippines making her a two-time Olympic medalists where she held a silver medal from the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.
The legendary Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao commended Petecio on his post, “Another proud moment for the Philippines! Congratulations Aira Villegas for winning bronze in boxing at the Paris 2024 Olympics! We, the Filipinos, are incredibly proud of you. Salamat, Aira! Mabuhay ka!”
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. also extended his congratulations to Petecio for bagging the bronze medal, “Nesthy! Thank you for bringing home the bronze medal for the Philippines. You’ve truly shown the world how Filipinos never back down from a challenge. The whole country is proud of you! Taas kamao, para sa boxingerong Pilipino.”
