PHILIPPINE GENERAL HOSPITAL FIRE BROKE OUT, WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

Wednesday afternoon, a fire broke out in the medicine ward of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). According to PGH spokesperson Dr. Jonas del Rosario, the authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire. 2:58 p.m. in PGH Manila reported the fire that broke out in the audio-visual room of their ward 1 or department medicine ward of PGH.
Due to fire, smoke and heat, the patients of other wards had to be evacuated. The emergency management unit of the Department of Health (DOH) sent assistance such as an ambulance, and vehicles in case the hospital needs to transfer patients from the ward affected by the fire.
Firefighters from different places such as Manila, Pasay quickly responded and closed the padre faura street while extinguishing the fire. The patients were immediately evacuated, especially those close to or affected by the incident from ward 1 to 4. None of the patients were reported hurt.
The fire reached the second alarm and according to the PGH, 4:30 p.m. it was declared fire out or the fire has been extinguished. Due to the incident, the hospital employees were sent home early, around 180 patients affected by the fire had to be transferred.
The DOH has instructed all hospitals to review the fire evacuation plan and conduct a risk analysis to prevent fire in their premises.
