From 76th spot on 2023, the rank of the Philippines has increased to top 53rd this 2024 in the list of the Happiest Country in the World based on the annual World Happiness Report of the United Nation.
This years report was published by University of Oxford’s Wellbeing Research Center in United Kingdom. For seven consecutive years, Finland topped the list again as the World’s Happiest country, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, and Israel.
Before the CoVid-19 pandemic, the Philippines top on number 52 in the list. In Asia, Philippines range on top five following South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore.
The Philippines is the most-improved nation year on year between 2023 and this year’s report, climbing 23 places, according to the Research Center.
The basis of the ranking according to the World Happiness Report Editor Shun Wang, there are six factors that contribute to the happiness score of each population, social support, individual income, generosity, health, freedom, and the absence of corruption.
Every year, the Oxford Wellbeing Research Center leads a global team that analyzes data from the Gallup World Poll for the World Happiness Report. The rankings are derived from the average of each population's quality of life assessments over a three-year period.
