After the extended weekend for the observance of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days or Undas, with millions visiting in cemeteries and various provinces, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that is has been deemed "generally peaceful" this year.
According to PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo, the overall peace and order assessment, stressing that no significant untoward incidents have been logged over the long weekend.
“We are happy to report that the observance of Undas this year was generally peaceful and orderly nationwide because no major incidents were reported that could potentially disrupt its commemoration,” Fajardo reported.
On the other hand, based on the latest National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) data stated at least forty people (40) were reportedly injured during the country’s observance of this year’s Undas.
Of this figure, the council said that 22 were confirmed, while 18 are still up for validation, based on its 8 a.m. report on Monday. The injuries were monitored in the National Capital Region and Central Visayas.
Fajardo acknowledged that a fire that broke out in Bagbag Cemetery in Novaliches, Quezon City on Friday morning where residents were seen fleeing the blaze by passing through gaps between apartment tombs. And that there were some "minor incidents, but all those, overall, did not affect the situation in our country."
PNP will continue to be deployed at bus terminals, airports, piers, and transport terminals as commuters return from the provinces. The PNP's heightened alert status will remain in effect until midnight of November 4.
