President Bongbong Marcos will name the new secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) before the end of the week. According to the President, a replacement for Vice President Sara Duterte must be found immediately, as there is a lot of work that needs to be done at DepEd, so the position of secretary cannot be vacant for long.
PBBM did not say how many or who it is choosing, but it assured that the next DepEd secretary is qualified and has enough skills.
“We cannot just leave it like that desolate without a secretary, so I rush everyone, I say give me many names. So, what do we need, do we need an educator, do we need an administrator, do we need an accountant, what do we need? And that’s what we’re trying to determine right now,” President Marcos stated.
On July 19, VP Sara Duterte effectively resigned as DepEd secretary, but the President refused to discuss the reason for the resignation of his vice president.
“She didn’t give any reason. I asked her, is there any particular reason why she has chosen to resign from the Department of Education and the NTF-ELCAC. And she said, ‘Let’s not talk about it’, so I did not force the issue,” he added.
“No matter the change of leadership in the department, we still have to carry on,” Marcos said. “I will probably be able to, I would like to be able to announce the appointment of the DepEd Secretary by the end of the week. We cannot leave it open.”
