Following the recent climate challenges that claimed the lives of some Filipinos, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed government agencies to bring the Christmas spirit to communities nationwide.
President Marcos assured the public his administration is committed to making Christmas memorable, even in the face of environmental challenges such as El Niño, La Niña, and the recent typhoons that impacted the country on his speech during the gift-giving activity at the Malacañang.
“We faced hardships last year. We were hit by a lot of things. It started with El Niño. It affected the agriculture sector, and now La Niña when we were hit by typhoons,” Marcos said.
“I hope we just have a merry Christmas. We are given a little time, a little chance to be with our loved ones, celebrate a little, have a little fun, and eat too much lechon, and then face the challenges. That is Christmas for Filipinos,” Marcos added.
President Marcos urged Filipinos to continue embracing the traditions of Christmas, emphasizing the importance of joy and togetherness during the holiday season.
The simultaneous gift-giving program aims to provide gifts to 30,000 children aged 4 to 12 across the country. The initiative began in 2022, collaborates with local governments and communities to provide gifts to those in need throughout the country.
This year’s event involved 17 local government units from Metro Manila and three LGUs from the Visayas and Mindanao, further emphasizing the nationwide reach of the initiative.
