PBBM AIMING TO MAKE PASIG RIVER A WORLD CLASS

Marcos emphasized the "bayanihan spirit" essential to restore the Pasig River while highlighting its distinctive history and cultural value.
After decades of neglect, let us witness the revitalization of our beloved Pasig River. A river that will look and feel like the famous waterways across the world, and that we see the Seine in Paris, the River Thames in London, the Chao Phraya in Bangkok,” Marcos said.
It will include more than thirty commercial stalls with contemporary features including individual water and electricity meters, fire safety, and sewage treatment. The structures will support other ecological practices and use renewable energy in line with government plans for environmental conservation and preservation.
Running over 26 kilometers along the Pasig River, the project is estimated to cost between P12 and P18 billion, and its purpose goes beyond mere visual appeal. In addition to emphasizing the need of protecting the Pasig River, it also aims to reduce traffic congestion by enhancing pedestrianization and providing alternate forms of mobility in the region.
At the same time, the president made a call to the public.
"Let us keep up the hard work and ensure that the Pasig River becomes a place of rest, recreation, and pride for our people and our country. Let us rally behind this advocacy and contribute, in our own way, to save the Pasig River. Supporting and participating in the efforts of the government and its partners to help maintain its cleanliness, and that will go a long way," Marcos stated.
Launched in January of last year, Phase 1C is a 250-meter development that extends from Plaza de Mexico in Intramuros across Jones Bridge and down to the esplanade outside the Manila Post Office.
