PAGASA: SOUTHWEST MONSOON AFFECTING PARTS OF PHILIPPINES

Since the night of August 27, rainfall have been continuous in several areas in the country. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the prevailing weather system is Southwest Monsoon or Habagat bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
The Pagasa said Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and Visayas are affected by habagat. In an advisory released by the weather state bureau, heavy rainfall warning is raised due to habagat. Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Bataan, Rizal and Quezon (General Nakar, Infanta) is under Yellow Warning Level associated hazard of flooding in flood-prone areas.
Meanwhile, expect light to moderate with occasional heavy rains over Zambales, Tarlac and Nueva Ecija within the next 3 hours. “The public and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices concerned are advised to MONITOR the weather condition.”
Light to moderate with occasional heavy rains affecting Laguna, Bulacan, Pampanga and Quezon(Candelaria, Dolores, San Antonio, Sariaya, Tiaong, Tayabas, Lucban, Lucena, Mauban, Pagbilao, Real, Sampaloc, Agdangan, Alabat, Atimonan, Buenavista, Burdeos, Calauag, Catanauan, General Luna, Guinayangan, Gumaca, Jomalig, Lopez, Macalelon, Mulanay, Padre Burgos, Panukulan, Patnanungan, Perez, Pitogo, Plaridel, Polillo, Quezon, San Andres, San Francisco, San Narciso, Tagkawayan, Unisan) which may persist within 3 hours.
Meanwhile, the water from La Mesa Dam in Quezon City has overflowed as it reached 80.15 meters at 5 a.m. on Wednesday. It will affect low-lying areas along the Tullahan River from Quezon City (Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Quirino Highway, Santa Quiteria, and San Bartolome); Valenzuela City (Barangay Ligon, North Luzon Expressway, and La Huerta Subdivision); and Malabon City.
Tullahan River water’s level is also being monitored as it reached more than 12 meters, residents are advised to watch out for possible floods. Some residents in the National Capital Region (NCR) have evacuated due to the effects of Habagat.
In Quezon City, 27 individuals were evacuated from two barangays and in Valenzuela City 131 people were also evacuated as a precaution against flooding caused by heavy rains, where there are designated evacuation sites in selected areas that are flooded or threatened by landslides for the safe and quick evacuation.
