Three typhoons have already affected the Philippines for the year 2024, and the last super typhoon Carina greatly affected the country. And according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa),13 to 16 storms would likely to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by the end of the year.
Pagasa weather specialist Robert Badrina said that for the month of August, two to three tropical cyclones are expected to form or enter the PAR. The weather bureau also forecasted that no low pressure area (LPA) or tropical cyclone will form or enter PAR until the weekend.
Moreover, Pagasa released a thunderstorm advisory as of 12:50 p.m. “Moderate to heavy rainshowers with lightning and strong winds are expected over Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Bataan, and Rizal within the next 2-3 hours.”
“The above conditions are being experienced in Zambales (Santa Cruz, Candelaria, Masinloc, Palauig, Iba, Botolan), Quezon (Candelaria, Tiaong, San Antonio, Tayabas), Nueva Ecija(Pantabangan) and Batangas (Laurel, Agoncillo), which may persist within 2 hours and may affect nearby areas,” it added, advising the public to take precautionary measures against possible flash floods and landslides.
