The government’s advocacy fun run event for the West Philippine Sea was participated by more than 7,000 Filipinos in Pasay City on Sunday. Supporting the country’s strong assertion of sovereign rights over the exclusive economic zone in the South China Sea.
The “Takbo para sa West Philippine Sea” was organized by RUNRIO Inc. along with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), National Task Force-West Philippine Sea, Philippine Information Agency (PIA), and the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
"Our intention for this activity is to raise awareness. Let's further promote the national government's efforts to stand our fight for the West Philippine Sea,” Commodore Jay Tarriela, PCG spokesperson stated.
The fun run was set to take place in three parts across the country: Mindanao, Visayas, and Luzon, with the first part taking place in Pasay City. On August 4th, the second leg will take place in Cebu City, and on September 8th, Cagayan de Oro City will host the third leg.
"Our soldiers and uniformed personnel are encouraged by the mere fact that ordinary Filipino compatriots are looking for ways to support our fight in the West Philippine Sea, this makes the heart of our army here in the Philippines grow bigger," Tarriela said.
Other local government units (LGUs), according to Tarriela, are also planning to organize their own "Takbo Para sa West Philippine Sea." Tarriela called the LGUs' intention "already a positive sign" of the Philippines coming together for WPS.
According to the PCO, RUNRIO Inc., Tarriela said the revenue of the advocacy run will be used to support the comic book project entitled “Ang mga Kuwento ni Teacher Jun,” which talks about issues on the West Philippine Sea.
