OPM band leader of Parokya ni Edgar, Chito Miranda, breaks silence and defended his wife, actress and businesswoman Neri Naig who has been arrested for alleged estafa and violation of the Securities Regulation Code.

The Southern Police District (SPD) earlier said it arrested a 41-year-old actress and businesswoman, alias "Erin," at a convention center in a mall in Pasay City on Saturday. She was later identified as the actress Neri Miranda.

According to the authorities, she was listed as the 7th most wanted person at the station level due to 14 counts of violating the Securities Regulation Code with recommended bail of P126,000 for each count. The PNP said the 2 complainants are from Cavite and Batangas who invested a total of P1,500,000.

On his wife's case, Miranda said that Naig always helped for as long as she could even when there would be times it is being abused by others. “Neri never fooled anyone, and she never tricked others. She never took or asked for money from anyone.”

The band leader emphasized that her wife was just an endorser and then they used her face to get investors. “The victims sued her. Then last week, she was suddenly arrested for the same case even though she did not receive a notice that there was a new criminal complaint against her, and she cannot even defend herself.”

“She received no letter from the prosecutor, no subpoena, no notice whatsoever. The previous times, we received it, and she complied. This is the woman you imprisoned without bail, while those with actual faults walk free,” he added.

Chito further said that Neri is a victim just like others who were targeted by swindlers at a company. “The owner should be chased. May the case be dismissed or brought to the prosecutor for preliminary investigation and the arrest warrant be lifted or quashed.”

Neri Miranda owns several businesses, such as Neri’s Gourmet Tuyo, some branches of the Italian restaurant Amare La Cucina, and a few rest houses for rent outside Metro Manila.
