Notice to the public, some parts of Intramuros Manila are temporarily closed today Monday March 18, 2024 to motorists. Based on the advisory of the Intramuros Administration, this includes the stretch of General Luna Street, from the part of the Palacio del Governor in A. Soriano to reach Sta. Clara Street.
Motorists can alternatively go through Arzobispo, A. Soriano and Cabildo Street. The construction is part of the expansion of the active and public infrastructure program of the department of transportation within Intramuros.
This includes the construction of a 9.6-kilometer bike lane and pedestrian walkway with provision for PWDs and public utility vehicle stops, said to aim to regulate and make traffic flow safe for the expected 19 million tourists visiting the Heritage site per year.
A year ago, the DOTr’s active expansion project was started which should have been completed by early 2023.
Meanwhile, apart from offices and universities within Intramuros, this route is also used by motorists coming from Anda Circle and going to Padre Burgos. It is said to be possible to open the closed roads before the holy day or holy week.
