NDRRMC: SOUTHWEST MONSOON AFFECTED OVER 220,000 INDIVIDUALS NATIONWIDE

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) released a situational report on the effect of heavy rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat nationwide or in five regions.
On a report, the agency said that in 363 barangays, 93,743 families consisting of 221,435 individuals are affected by the habagat that experienced heavy rain, floods, landslides and others. Out of the total number, 21,464 were displaced, 20,026 took shelter at 46 evacuation centers (ECs) nationwide, while 1,378 stayed outside of ECs.
Mindanao was severely affected by the habagat where floods hit the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao according to the NDRRMC.
Fatalities were also recorded in Northern Mindanao, the other fatality from the Davao Region is still undergoing validation, two were dead and two people were injured with one missing from Northern Mindanao.
A Red Alert was raised in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) due to the rapid escalation of the emergency, aggravated by the effects of the southwest monsoon. The massive flooding that hit the region has killed eight individuas.
Damage to agriculture reach P17,879,687 in crops and affected 238 farmers and fisherfolk in Zamboanga and Northern Mindanao while infrastructure is at P700,000 in Northern Mindanao, Davao and SOCCSKSARGEN.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) have forecasted that the southwest monsoon brought moderate to heavy or heavy to intense rainfall over the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The monitored low pressure area (LPA) brings scattered rains over the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao. And is forecast to develop into a tropical cyclone as early as Wednesday and will be named Butchoy. It may head towards Eastern Visayas or Bicol and cross the central part of the country by Thursday and Friday.
