NAIA REHABILITATION AND MODERNIZATION

Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is currently ranked as the 4th worst airport in the world and one of the most stressful airports in Asia. Now that the rehabilitation and modernization of the airport is signed, it is expected that the various problems in this area will be fixed.
The Public Private Partnership (PPP) for the modernization of NAIA deal was signed, under the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the winning concessionaire SMC and lists RLW Aviation Development Inc., RMM Asian Logistics Inc. and South Korean airport operator Incheon International Airport Corp. as partners, more than P170.6 billion is the fund for rehabilitation and modernization.

SMC President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon Ang said the priority is to repair the electrical system, generator, air conditioning, and airport facilities. Expect an additional passenger terminal building that can serve 35 million passengers per year, walkalator or access road between terminals 1 and 2, carpark building that can park 9,000 cars, 3 -lane bypass road from Skyway-Magallanes directly to NAIA terminal 3, OFW lounge, modern x-ray machine and use of QR code at check in, and visual docking system.
Through this, terminals 1,2, and 3 will be decongested by 30%. Later on, the passenger terminal fee will also be increased currently at P550.
President Bongbong Marcos said, “I urge the SMC and company consortium to fulfill its commitment to this Public Private Partnership project. This undertaking is not just about revenues that will be remitted to treasury alone, but resources invested in the airport and in many ways, it is an investment in our future.”
“Within six months from September 2024, we aim to elevate your airport experience.” Ramon Ang stated.
In September the consortium will take over NAIA, and the Manila International Airport (MIA) will be the regulator.
