MT. APO NATURAL PARK CLOSED UNTIL APRIL 30

The temporary closure of Mt. Apo Natural Park is extended until April 30, because of this, camping and trekking on the mountain are not allowed. According to the Protected Area Management Board, the temporary closure of Mt. Apo Natural Park is for the safety against the effect of El Niño.

Because the threat of wildfire is high, camping and trekking trips can be scheduled with local organizers. The park would be closed from March 20 to 30 as originally declared by the DENR in an effort to reduce the risk of bushfires.
The closure was pursuant to a resolution released by the executive committee of the Mt. Apo Natural Park-Protected Area Management Board (PAMB). The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Davao office in a statement posted on Facebook stated that, “in response to the ongoing El Niño phenomenon, which has led to a prolonged dry spell and increased the risk of wildfires, threatening the park’s diverse ecosystems and the safety of visitors.”
DENR-11 said that, “The board will remain vigilant, continuously monitoring the situation, and will provide timely updates regarding the reopening of the park. We appeal to the public's sense of responsibility to join us in this preventive measure to preserve the natural beauty and integrity of Mt. Apo.”
The evaluation and recommendations of the MANP-Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) of regions 11 and 12 will be the basis for the decision to continue or prolong the closure, as previously stated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Davao (DENR-11).
