MORE THAN 90,000 DENGUE CASES IN THE PHILIPPINES - DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) reminded the public to redouble caution against dengue disease, thousands of cases have been raised this year compared to 2023. According to DOH data, dengue cases reached 90,119 from January to June.
Which is 19% higher than the nearly 75,968 cases in the same period last year. The DOH also recorded 233 deaths due to dengue this year. the DOH stated that 8,246 cases of dengue were recorded between June 2 to June 15. That's a 30% increase from the 6,323 cases of dengue that were monitored from May 19 to June 1 start of the rainy season.
Seven regions have experienced an increase in cases over the past six weeks including Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas and the National Capital Region. The most dengue cases in Baguio City.
According to the Baguio City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, there are 1,554 cases of dengue from January to this month where five barangays are under surveillance in Baguio.
Even some athletes in the Palarong Pambansa were also affected by dengue, seven of the athletes were taken to the Cebu City Medical Center and most of them have been discharged.
Advice from the Health department to the public, follow the 4S to prevent dengue; the Search and Destroy, cleaning areas that may be infested with mosquitoes; the Self Protection Measures or wearing clothes with long sleeves and using mosquito repellant; the Seek Early Consultation or immediate visit to the doctor if symptoms are felt; and Support Fogging or Spraying in Hotspot Areas or cooperation with the fogging authorities in areas where dengue outbreaks may start.
“The DOH is cautious in interpreting case counts especially as regards the most recent tally as there may be incoming late reports. This may be attributed to ongoing intensified efforts of local governments to kill mosquitoes by searching and destroying their breeding water,” the Health Department said.
