The New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) said that there were over 20 abandoned vehicles were discovered in various parking facilities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). And some of the vehicles have been at the airport since 2014.
The new operator of NAIA is calling on owners of the abandoned cars at the airport to reclaim their vehicles or they will soon be towed. "NNIC is offering owners a final chance to reclaim their cars before they are towed and impounded."
Adding that the abandoned vehicles are taking up space that should be available for passengers, also a security and safety concern especially in its deteriorating states. The NNIC is carrying out further audits across the four terminals and is expecting to discover more abandoned vehicles.
The abandoned vehicles will remain at NAIA for a limited period of time. “We are waiving any applicable fees to encourage owners to reclaim them.”
Owners must present proof of ownership and valid identification to reclaim their vehicles. Unclaimed cars will be towed and impounded in a government facility according to NNIC.
The San Miguel-led private operator of NAIA has recently implemented series of changes in the airport like, increasing the parking fees especially overnight parking to freed up many parking spots at the airport and reduced congestion around the terminals.
The operator said that the increase was not meant to rake in more profit but to enhance parking access for passengers. NNIC will also temporarily close Terminal 4 for a major renovation next month.
