The Miss Universe 2022 unveiled her first Philippine collection at the Bench Fashion Week of "How to Survive on Land and Sea" that was held last Friday at the Bench Tower in Bonifacio Global City.
Bench founder and chairman Ben Chan offered the opportunity to launch R’Bonney her collection at BFW, the fashion designer said yes. "Even though I've only been in the Philippines for a few months and didn't know where to begin, I knew I needed to take this challenge on. Navigating these past 2.5 months has been tough, inspiring, and rewarding to make this vision come to life."
On her Instagram post, R’Bonney shared some of her creations from the fashion runaway with pieces that reflect the heart and passion of the Filipino-American beauty.
She stated in her caption, “The collection is called 'How to Survive on Land and Sea,' so I'm mixing swimwear elements and beachwear together, kind of balancing the two contrasting elements. I got my shells from Siargao. Some of them are from Bench or the ukay-ukay, and I upcycled them. It's all really sourced here in the Philippines since I'm here now."
Among the models for R'Bonney’s collection were beauty queens Chelsea Manalo, Miss Universe Philippines 2024 Bea Gomez, Miss Universe Philippines 2019 Gazini Ganados, and PBB and Lou Yanong.
As another accomplishment of their daughter, R'Bonney's parents were present in the audience, proud of her for navigating the country to produce her collection.
"It came with a whole new challenge because I didn't know anyone here. But I loved it. I was going around on Angkas, going to ukay-ukay, working in the factory. I love the whole challenge of figuring out how to start from scratch. I've been working on it, but this is my first fashion show in about six years and my first fashion show in the Philippines, so I'm thankful for the opportunity. I love it!"
"Thank you to family, friends, tailors, models, Bench team, Empire Mercator team, Jacob Casem, Ate Carla, Kuya Elmer, and the Philippines fashion community for supporting me in all of this," the Filipino-American beauty queen expressed as she thanked the Filipino community.
