A fire destroys approximately 300 houses in Brgy. San Isidro, Parañaque City, on Tuesday night. The fire spread quickly to the houses made of light materials. The fourth alarm was immediately raised from the first fire alarm after an hour, signaling for 16 fire trucks to respond.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is still investigating the cause of the fire incident. About P800,000 of property was the estimated cost of damage. BFP Parañaque F/SRINSP. Mark Tuto said to call the fire department even if it's a small fire to prevent it from growing.
While in the slum area of Brgy. Tatalon in Quezon City, a fire razed around 11:16 a.m. that displaced about 120 families and reached the second alarm. 45 shacks were destroyed by the fire at the corner streets of Banawe and Cadiz according to an employee of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. The covered court of a public school in the area served as a shelter for the affected residents.
Fire incidents that destroyed homes were recorded for consecutive days in different parts of the country, especially in the National Capital Region (NCR).
For the first two months of 2024, a total of 2,742 fire incidents, or up to 23%, have been recorded nationwide. At least 123 municipalities are without fire trucks as of January 2024, based on BFP data.
P1.23 billion worth of property damage was reported from January to February 2024. And fire incidents in Metro Manila were 55 percent, but the amount of damage was 61 percent higher than last year, when it reached P511.60 million.
