MASSIVE POWER OUTAGES IN SEVERAL PARTS OF LUZON, 2 MILLION AFFECTED

Many areas in Luzon experienced a power outage this weekend after the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed the entire Luzon Grid on Red Alert due to insufficient power supply. In Quezon City, some parts of the road on Kamuning road were covered in darkness, many residents came out of their houses to cool off due to the heat.
A large part of Pangasinan also experienced a brown out, before 9 p.m. The street lights went out so some businessmen simply closed their shops and establishments because there was no sale.
Many establishments were also damaged by brown outs particularly along Aurora Boulevard in Cubao Quezon City. Many areas in Pampanga are also affected, many netizens have posted their experience that activities were delayed due to the brown out.
According to Meralco, nearly 2 million customers lost power in Metro Manila, Pampanga, Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Quezon. It took an hour and a half to brown out in some places. It was after 11 pm when service was restored in other affected areas.
According to Meralco spokesperson and head of corporate communications Joe Zaldarriaga, they had to implement a rotational power interruption because the electricity supply was insufficient. They also apologized for the inconvenience caused by the brown out. Meralco assured that everything is being done continuously to reduce or completely avoid power interruptions.
