Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao is preparing for his boxing exhibition against Rukiya Anpo at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan on Sunday July 28.
Pacquiao, 45 years old, 62-8-2 with 39 knockouts, retired in August 2021 after losing by unanimous decision to Yordenis Ugas and last fought in the ring in December 2022 when he beat South Korean martial artist DK Yoo via a lopsided unanimous decision.
During his training at the Kyokuto Gym in Tokyo with head trainer Buboy Fernandez, Pacquiao demonstrated the speed and power that made him the only eight-division world champion in boxing history.
Anpo will be Pacquiao’s tallest opponent, a 28-year-old 6-foot former K-1 super lightweight champion and the 2021 K-1 welterweight Gran Prix runner-up. Also trained in karate before concentrating on kickboxing.
Furthermore, boxing icon Manny Pacquiao has been named the best Asian athlete of the 21st century based to an article by sports website ESPN. ESPN acknowledged that Pacquiao is “arguably one of the greatest boxers of all time.”
“He won world titles in an unprecedented eight weight divisions, showcasing his versatility and dominance. Pacquiao's career spanned over three decades, during which he defeated numerous boxing legends,” the sports media company said.
“Pacquiao's remarkable achievements and impact on boxing highlight his extraordinary legacy and has now stemmed into a career in politics and as an executive in various sports,” it added.
