The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) announced the approved suspension of work and classes in the National Capital Region (NCR) on August 28, 2024 due to the heavy rainfall brought by Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).
Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) recommended to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. the suspension of government classes and work within the NCR effective 7 a.m. on August 28 (Wednesday).
"We would like to respectfully inform the President that due to the ongoing and the forecasted rainfall today, August 28, 2024, which will bring occasional rains with possible flashfloods over Metro Manila caused by the Southwest Monsoon, the NDRRMC recommends the suspension of classes and work within the National Capital Region (NCR)."
Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said that for the private sectors, the decision is left to the respective heads.
"The same course of action for private companies, offices, and schools is left to the discretion of their respective heads," it added.
The suspension excludes frontline agencies engaged in emergency services. According to the NDRRMC, the suspension will prevent any untoward incidents and will ensure the safety of the general public.
According to PAGASA, it's the southwest monsoon that would be affecting large parts of the country until weekend wherein scattered and isolated rains would be prevalent. And there would be no tropical cyclone or low pressure area entering or forming within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in the coming days.
