In view of the inclement weather brought by Tropical Storm “Kristine” affecting the whole country particularly the Island of Luzon, the Palace announced the suspension of work in government offices and classes in all levels in the entire Luzon for Wednesday, October 23.
“However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services,” the Office of the Executive Secretary stated.
“The suspension of work for private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads,” it added.
Following this, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) also suspended the expanded number coding scheme. “The Expanded Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program or number coding scheme is suspended today, October 23, Wednesday.”
On PAGASA’s latest bulletin, the center of tropical storm Kristine was located at 310 km East of Baler Aurora or 310 km East of Northeast Infant Quezon with a maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h.
Kristine is forecast to gradually intensify into a severe tropical storm before making landfall on Isabela or northern Aurora on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning. It may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) region on Friday (October 25).
Over 26 areas in Luzon are now placed under Tropical cyclone wind signal no. 2 and Signal no.1 is raised over parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
In Bicol Region, several areas are experiencing heavy flooding and the Bicol Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (BRDRRMC) are asking for additional help as their rescuers are no longer able to respond to the calls for help in the ongoing widespread flooding in the Bicol region, especially in the areas of Camarines Sur, Albay, and Naga City. “Affected citizens are advised to find a safe place first and rescues will be prioritized. Rescuers will try to meet your rescue requests. I hope we can understand the situation of our rescuers.”
