State weather bureau Pagasa forecast that Typhoon ‘Marce’ remains slow-moving over the waters east of Northern Cagayan on Wednesday. While areas in Cavite, Laguna, Bataan, and Rizal will experience moderate to heavy rainshowers with lightning and strong winds due to localized thunderstorms.

The center of the eye of Typhoon Marce was estimated based on all available data at 295 km East of Aparri, Cagayan moving Westward slowly with a maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the gustiness of up to 185 km/h.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No.3 (TCWS) was raised over the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana, Cagayan) where winds of greater than 89 km/h up to 117 km/h is expected.

Batanes, the rest of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, the northern portion of Isabela (Maconacon, San Pablo, Santa Maria, Divilacan), Apayao, the northern portion of Kalinga (Rizal, Pinukpuk, Balbalan), the northern portion of Abra (Langiden, Bangued, Danglas, Tayum, La Paz, Dolores, Lagayan, San Juan, Lagangilang, Tineg, Lacub, Licuan-Baay, Malibcong), Ilocos Norte, and the northern portion of Ilocos Sur (Sinait, Cabugao, San Juan, Magsingal, Santo Domingo, Bantay, San Ildefonso, San Vicente, Santa Catalina) were under Signal No.2.

While Signal No.1 was issued on the rest of Ilocos Sur, La Union, the northwestern portion of Pangasinan (Bani, Bolinao, Anda, City of Alaminos, Agno, Sual), the rest of Abra, the rest of Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, the rest of Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, and the northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao, Maria Aurora, Baler).

‘Marce’ will make landfall and traverse Babuyan Islands or the northern portions of mainland Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, and Apayao or pass very close to the said areas from Thursday (November 07) afternoon to Friday (November 08) early morning according to PAGASA.

It added that the typhoon is expected to continue intensifying and may reach its peak intensity today before its passage over Babuyan Channel. Slight weakening is expected due to possible interaction with the terrain of mainland Luzon.

Although ‘Marce’ will remain as a typhoon throughout its passage within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) region, the surge of the northeasterly wind flow will trigger a continuous period of weakening during the weekend, the state weather bureau stated.

Typhoon ‘Marce’ may exit PAR region on Friday (November 08) evening. “The surge of the northeasterly wind flow will result a more southwestward movement during the weekend.”

Furthermore, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Wednesday tasked all government agencies to be on high alert in response to Typhoon Marce. Stressing the need to ensure that relevant information reaches the communities promptly and on-the-ground situations are reported accurately.

“To all government agencies, you all know the drill. I am placing you all on high alert. Let us start with an efficient communication system which will deliver prompt advice and information to the public,” Marcos stated.
