On Thursday morning, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) announced that the operations of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT2) were temporarily suspended due to a technical problem near J. Ruiz Station.
According to LRTA Administrator Atty. Hernando Cabrera, the pantograph of a train encountered a problem that forced them to stop the operations in all LRT2 stations. “We have a train that has a damaged pantograph—if you look at the train, it looks like there is an antenna at the top, it is the one that connects to the power supply, our overhead catenary system.”
Cabrera said that the technicians were assessing the situation so it can be towed and placed on the stabling track at V.Mapa Station so that the cycle of trains can be returned to normal and the entire line can be returned to normal operations.
“Please stay tuned on our social media pages for future announcements and we apologize for the inconvenience,” it added.
On Wednesday morning, thousands of passengers were affected after the management announced that the “LRT-2 is temporarily implementing a provisional service due to a power supply problem. The train trip is from Antipolo to V. Mapa stations only and back.”
The operations of the full route were restored around 12 in the afternoon. Power supply issues have also broken up on LRT-2 operations in January this year where a five-hour power disruption was experienced.
