The operations of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 Cavite Extension (L1CE) Phase One will open its partial operation to the public with five new stations on Saturday, November 16.
Phase 1 of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension covers five new stations—Redemptorist-ASEANA, Manila International Airport Road, Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange, Ninoy Aquino Avenue, and Dr. Santos.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. led the inauguration ceremony of the trail extension on Friday, marking a significant milestone in modernizing the transport system in the Philippines.
In his speech during the inauguration ceremony, Marcos highlighted the project’s importance, citing the new stations are expected to accommodate 80,000 additional passengers daily, reducing the travel time between Baclaran, Pasay City, and Bacoor, Cavite, from 70 minutes to just 25 minutes.
The project is also expected to accommodate an additional 300,000 daily passengers in the first year of full operations and alleviate traffic conditions in the cities of Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Bacoor, Cavite.
“By serving commuters across Metro Manila, Cavite, neighboring areas, the whole project creates a smoother, more reliable mode of transport,” President Marcos said.
Marcos also acknowledged his father, former president Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., for initiating the construction of Metro Manila's first urban rail transit system. He also expressed appreciation for his predecessors, acknowledging their efforts in advancing the L1CE project.
“The operation will start tomorrow (November 16) at five in the morning. So I encourage all our commuters to try it and you will see that it is very convenient compared to the traffic we experience every day,” he added.
Marcos vowed to boost the country’s rail transport system. “Our journey towards a more seamless and modernized public transportation system does not end here. We are committed to building station after station, reaching as far and as fast as our people’s needs dictate.”
