LPA MAY DEVELOP INTO TROPICAL CYCLONE “BUTCHOY”, 2ND STORM THIS 2024

Weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced that the cloud cluster spotted east of Mindanao has turned into low pressure area (LPA).

“At 8:00 AM today (15 July 2024), the cloud cluster east of Mindanao has developed into an LPA and was estimated at 485 kilometers east of Davao City (7.6°N, 130.0°E),” Pagasa said in a post.

The weather state bureau said that the LPA may develop into a tropical cyclone in 24 to 48 hours and will be identified with the local name Butchoy which is the second storm for this year. 

PAGASA further stated that the western regions of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao continues to be affected by the Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat. Over several areas, clouds and rain showers are expected.

Due to the Habagat, cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms are anticipated over Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Mindanao, and Western Visayas. PAGASA issued a warning that moderate to heavy rains could cause landslides or flash floods.
