The low pressure area (LPA) being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has entered the region on Saturday, then intensified into a tropical depression at 8 am. It was given the local name ‘Nika’, as the Philippines’ 14th tropical cyclone for 2024.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast that it was last located at 1,170 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon. ‘Nika’ remains generally far from landmass as of 8 am.
Given its distance from land, the weather disturbance would have no effect on the country yet, at least on Saturday. But on Sunday, November 10, ‘Nika’ may bring scattered rain to Bicol, Quezon, and Aurora. Then on Monday, November 11, and Tuesday, November 12, it may trigger rain in most of Northern Luzon as well, aside from Southern Luzon.
On Saturday, the entire country is expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with just isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. With Metro Manila and the rest of the country having "generally fair" weather conditions, with rains brought in by localized thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Cagayan and Aurora are expected to be affected by easterlies. Easterlies are warm winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean.
Furthermore, another LPA formed outside PAR on Friday evening. It was located 2,870 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao at 3 am on Saturday, still far outside PAR.
According to PAGASA, it currently has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours. The weather bureau advised the public to keep monitoring updates on this LPA and on ‘Nika’.
Typhoon Marce (Yinxing) left PAR on Friday, November 8, after causing extensive damage in Northern Luzon, particularly in the province of Cagayan. Signal No. 4 was the highest tropical cyclone wind signal raised due to Marce.
