The low pressure area (LPA) being monitored inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) has developed into a tropical depression named Julian on Friday morning according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Based on Pagasa's forecast, it is possible that Tropical Depression Julian will last until next week. The storm will first move southward causing it to gather strength and become a tropical storm. By the end of the week, the direction of the storm may change and move northward and hit the Northern boundary of PAR, and at that moment, Storm Julian may become a Typhoon.
The tropical depression will continuously intensify and will be at severe tropical storm and typhoon categories by Sunday and Tuesday, respectively. “Furthermore, the highest Wind Signal which may be hoisted during the occurrence of Julian is Wind Signal No. 2 or 3.”
“Julian is forecast to follow a looping path over the waters east of Batanes and Cagayan in the next five days. Initially, the tropical cyclone will head south southwestward today while decelerating, then move slowly westward on Saturday (28 September) and northwestward on Sunday (29 September), before accelerating generally northward on Monday (30 September) and Tuesday (01 August)," said PAGASA.
It is not expected to make landfall in the country according to Pagasa, the center of typhoon Julian was once again observed at a distance of 525 km East of Itbayat Batanes with a strength of 55 kph and a gust of up to 70 kph, and will move South Southwest at a speed of 15 kph.
Due to Julian, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and Isabela will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms with the possibility that flash floods or landslides will occur due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
While Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms with the possibility that flash floods or landslides will occur during severe thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, PAGASA is also monitoring two weather disturbances outside PAR, a tropical depression near Guam, and another LPA near the PAR’s boundary. As of 3 a.m., it is estimated at 2,600 kilometers east of Central Luzon and packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph, gustiness of up to 70 kph, and moving north northwestward at the speed of 15 kph.
