JEEPNEY TRANSPORT STRIKE STARTING APRIL 15

The groups of Piston and Manibela held a series of transport strike starting on Monday to demand the scrapping of the franchise consolidation of the PUV modernization program. According to Piston President, it appears that the authorities didn’t go a thorough study on the condition of the transportation sector.

In Metro Manila alone, 30,000 to 40,000 drivers and operators will lose their jobs when the consolidation deadline passes. The Manibela group also hopes that the Supreme Court will issue an order to stop the consolidation before April 30th.
Driver’s and operators expressed that they can’t afford the consolidation, the expensive the transitioning into modern mini-bus units that is worth over P2 million.
The group mentioned that continues protest will happen if the government continues to insist on joining cooperatives and corporations of individual operators. President Marcos Jr. first stated that the deadline for the franchise consolidation of the PUV modernization program has been finalized.
According to the groups, the PUVMP doesn’t only risks the livelihood of drivers and operators but also the million workers and students’ commuters that rely on their services.
20,000 to 25,000 combined forces of drivers and operators from Piston and Manibela will participate in a massive protest action on Monday in Metro Manila. On different regions across the country, it will reach more than 100,000 who will participate in the protest.
